Fun with and Enranged Lunge Pet
This is not an original build, but I wanted to share how much fun I was having with it.=P
I have been having loads of fun with an Enraged lunge ranger build in RA. The great thing about it is that Anti melee casters rarely target your pet here. Countless times in the past few hours, I have been blinded by a E/Mo or spitful spirited, killed the person who did it with my pet, only to have them reblind me instead of my pet when I res. I don't think it is the greatest build in the world, but I chocked up 8 glad points in a few hours, so it can't be completely terrible. Here is what I am using:
Enraged Lunge
Call of Haste
Call of Protection
Predatory Bond
Troll Unguent
Comfort Animal
Res Sig
Charm Animal
Stats:
Beast Mastery 12 + 1 + 3
Expertise 10 + 1
Wilderness Survival 7 + 1
Marksmanship - Rest
Fow my weapon I am using a bow. Not the most efficient, but it fools people into thinking that I am doing damage instead of my pet.
This is a pretty standard build setup for an Enranged Lunge Ranger (Wiki has an almost identical class), and while I don't think it is as powerful as a thumper, it is nice for RA because you count always count on condition removal or heals.
Pros - You can troll unguent or res sig while attacking
You can kite while attacking
Your pet is hasted 24/7 so running doesn't help. If someone runs out of the range of the monk, they are dead.
People tend place pets last on the anti-melee hexes / blinds, so often your pet has a green light to go destroy something.
Lots of damage, you can kite a touch ranger, or outdamage most other ranger builds with this.
Cons - The pet can become stuck behind other players or spirits etc.
It is difficult to change targets.
It is difficult to tell what hex / condition is on your pet and even harder to tell your monk to get rid of it.
Anyway what do you think? Should I replace call of protection with a different attack skill like disrupting lunge? Would a build like this work in TA, or should I just stick to a standard thumper?

You could go with a Monk secondary and handle conditions on your pet yourself.

True, but which skill would you drop for that?
You need three other beastmastery skills recharging to make max use of enraged lunge. That means, the only things you could drop are troll unguent, comfort animal or res sig. All those I use quite often.
You could drop one of the three beastmastery skills (call of protection?) and only do 70-100 damage with enraged lunge instead of 90-120. My pet being blinded is not that big a problem in RA though. In TA, a boon prot could look for conditions on the pet when they know someone is blinding.

works better on a thumper, ham bash /crushing/irres/tf/enraged/comfort/charm/res
you can KD: deep wound, pwn with irres,
hit TF and then enraged for +66dmg, usually ~119 on softies and high 80's to 90's on warriors.
12 ham, 14 beast, 9 exp.

14 beast = +22 per rechargine, if you hit TF and then enraged that's 3x +22, so, +66,~ not the max +80

I see two beastmaster skills that will be rechargning... TF and enraged lunge. What is the third?
Also, since you don't have a haste or pet haste, does this build run into problems with running people? Other than that, it looks really good. I will have to try it.

How does that work? Charm animal never is cast so never can be recharging, and comfort animal has a 1 second cast time and a 1 second recharge time, so in order to get the extra damage for it, you would have to do it in a one second interval. I am not being critical, just asking how you can get the massive bonus? Does charm animal count even though it is not recharging?

tiger's fury
EDIT: Maybe I should actually say how. Notice how Tiger's fury will make charm and comfort recharge.

hit TF = TF recharges, Charm recharges, Comfort recharges.
hit Enraged = Enraged recharges.
+20 x 4 = +80.

That makes sense. I went ahead and tried the thumper build over the weekend and noticed that it does do a lot more damage than the pet build. I tried it in RA and was impressed by its killing power.
One problem with a thumper in RA is that you are not guarenteed having a good healer. I have noticed that as a pure pet build with troll unguent, I typicaly win about 4-5 matches in a row (and earned 8 glad points in 6 hours). With the thumper build, I played for about 4 hours and typicaly won about 2 matches in a row. I did replace predatory bond with maiming strike. That makes the pet very good for killing healers.
Once I get to gladiator rank one I will move on to TA and test some more.
Thanks,
Jerich

Does anyone else think that this is a bit out of balance? This damage bonus is almost as much as final thrust (+86), but this skill combination of enraged/TF/charm/comfort is not conditional. When I first read the skill a couple months back, my thinking was that A-net designed it for beastmasters using multiple pet attacks or skills such as pet shouts and perhaps some long recharging beastmaster spirits. I am of the opinion that they really did not have in mind that the charm animal skill could be recharging when they designed this skill. Also, they probably thought it was highly unlikely that comfort animal would be recharging.

Not really, the skill can only be used every 10 seconds (if you use tigers fury to get the max dmg), wich means that you only get 8 DPS of it (or 12 DPS if you use it when only TF and enraged are recharging, but this means that you spend 2 pips to use it). This is quite balanced for a elite skill, IMHO.

9 energy ever 10 seconds (assuming 9 expertise) is nearly 3 pips of regen. This could leave nothing for irresisteble blow and just enough to barely squeeze in a crushing. Yeah, so I can see this from a balance standpoint being okay since it is so energy intensive. Having faced teams with 2 enraged thumpers it is a lot more front loaded damage than ferocious thumpers, but they seem to have less staying power after you handle the initial storm. So am I correct in assuming that most enraged thumpers do not use irresisteble blow?

When I play enraged thumper, I always carry irresistible. I do recall running out of energy a few times because of not having Ferocious. You are correct, they do not have as much staying power as Ferocious. However using a zealous hammer might offset that...
